Frequently Asked Questions

For some people face to face counselling is their own and only preference, for others they find it more convenient to have their counselling at home or a private space where they feel comfortable.  Also, travelling to and from appointments as well as adding in the 50 minutes of a session may seem too much of a sacrifice as they are also needed elsewhere.  For others they may want to talk during their breaks in work rather than having their sessions during their homelife.   And for others, they may prefer to talk over the phone, they may be self conscious about how they feel and think about themselves, and just feel comfortable using this mode of communication.

Yes, it does to be honest.  It takes a lot of courage to receive counselling and in order to get the full experience and receive the best opportunity to heal and move forward, it does take a high level of commitment and dedication from yourself.  But I have that same level of dedication to help you, so we would be meeting in the middle, working as a team to get you to a point where you feel that you are able to cope on your own.

Yes, of course, that isn’t a problem.  Sometimes we need a top up session(s) just to make sure that we are staying on track or if something comes up and you need further help, then the door is open to you – not a problem

Some issues can take longer to work through due to their nature and making sure that you supported and cared for appropriately, but I do understand that there is a financial cost to completing private counselling and this can be a major factor in how many sessions someone can afford.  I work with clients both on a short-term basis as well as for longer-term.  If you want to create an allocation of say 6 or 8 sessions, we can do that and we’ll work within that remit in the best and most appropriate way, and if you want more sessions then that is possible to.  The way I work is if there is an appointment free, then you can have it.

I’m afraid not.  As I offer the same level of service to everyone, it doesn’t feel right to offer that service for one price to one person and another price to another.

I’m afraid not.  My qualifications and experience is for working with people from the age of 18 onwards.  It would be inappropriate for me to offer counselling to anyone younger, I’m afraid.

I started as a chef and working in the hospitality industry, followed by managing and being a deputy manager in various retail outlets.  I’ve also worked in the domiciliary care industry whilst completing my initial training, as well as volunteered for The Samaritans, MacMillan Centre in a local hospital and Age UK.

I have been in private practice for 13 years, starting in Liverpool city centre and becoming an online therapist during the first lockdown.  I work for different EAP companies and agencies, as well as with privately funded clients, so I have a lot of experience in various industries as well as whilst being a Therapist.

In other words I know and understand the struggles involved in making changes.  But my interest is to help you grow and develop into the person who feels right for you, learning to take risks and embracing opportunities rather than being riddled with fear of failure which is restricting you.
